Did you know?
Julián Felipe, a Filipino composer and patriot, composed Lupang Hinirang in 1898. “Marcha Filipina Magdalo” was the original title of the musical composition. The anthem was played during the historic Declaration of Philippine Independence. It was later on called “Marcha Nacional Filipina”.
Jose Palma wrote the Spanish lyrics, entitled “Filipinas, in 1899. Ildefonso Santos and Julian Cruz Balmeda penned the Filipino version in the 1940s.
